Expressive Charcoal
FALL term 2026
8 weeks
Tuesdays, 12:30-3:00pm
Class size limit: 10
Explore the dramatic and diverse medium of charcoal to create a painterly effect using the additive and subtractive method. We’ll use a variety of mark-making techniques, tools and tips, and learn how to see shapes rather than contours to create a full range of values. Students will work from black/white images for inspiration. Individual attention will be emphasized.

Shifting Lines: A Creative Path to Abstract Drawing
5 day workshop
Discover new ways of seeing and creating as we use Menucha’s landscape as inspiration for abstract expression. Through guided prompts and experimental methods, you’ll explore how to transform a variety of sketches into one cohesive drawing, layering mixed media to build depth, texture, and meaning. Together we’ll balance the real with the imagined, working intuitively to uncover unexpected directions in your art. Along the way, we’ll apply principles of design to strengthen and refine composition. This workshop welcomes anyone eager to deepen their creative process and expand their artistic voice.
